There are a majority of people who complain of not able to make their dreams come true. On the other hand, there are only few who get ready every day to put in hard work that their dreams demand and change their dream into reality. Where do you fit it in?

In the leisurely mood, I was thinking how come a majority of people dream big but fail to achieve. Their plans are well structured. They know what they have to do in order to make their dream come true. However, they fail eventually.

This made me dig into lives of successful people. What I found from their stories that they follow one thumb rule for success- Hard Work.

Zubair bin Awwam (Peace Be Upon Him) reported: Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) said, “It is far better for you to take your rope, go to the mountain, (cut some firewood) carry it on your back, and sell it and thereby save your face than begging from people whether they give you or refuse.” [Bukhari]
Let’s see what Quran says about hard work.

That man can have nothing but what he strives for; that (the fruit of) his striving will soon come in sight: Then will he be rewarded with a reward complete. (An-Najm 53:39-41)

Islam clearly says that without hard work you will not get what you desire for.

Let’s understand how hard work pays off by the story of Amazon.com founder, Jeff Bezos.

Bezos was fond of computers and studied computer and electrical engineering at Princeton University. He got an opportunity to work on Wall Street. In 1990 he became the youngest senior vice president at the investment firm D.E. Shaw.

However, this success did not suit him and he quit his lucrative job to open Amazon.com. We all know about Amazon.com very well.

It was not the virtual store for everything that you see now, but the only bookstore in the initial stage of its existence. It became one of the internet’s biggest success stories. Bezos bought The Washington Post in a $250 million deal. Now he is one of the successful and richest men in the world.

Bezos success story sounds very fascinating. However, the success, rather his dream did not come true with ease. He put in huge efforts to it.

Bezos once said, “I took the less safe path to follow my passion, and I’m proud of that choice”

In the early days, Amazon has 12-hour of working a day, seven days a week, and being up until 3 a.m. Bezos always had a relentless work ethic. This is how Bezos worked hard to make his venture successful.

If you dig into other successful people’s lives you will get to know that there is no substitute for hard work to turn your dream into reality.

If you ask someone what they want in life they will talk about successful career, big house and without doubt “fame”. However, they fail when it comes to actually embrace the hard work and pain to achieve their dream.

For instance, if you want to be a best selling author you have to put in more than enough effort to write the book that people crave for reading. This does not happen without hard work. You have to work hard to improve your writing and storytelling skills to write an enthralling book.

Dream big. Plan to make your dream come true. Embrace the hard work and pain throughout your journey towards the dream and get it.

“A dream doesn’t become reality through magic; it takes sweat, determination and hard work,” says Colin Powell once.
