What time did you wake toady? Probably less than two hours before office time for getting ready and travelling to the office. But if you see the life of successful people they give much importance to morning rituals. I have read a lot about successful people and found that having a morning ritual contributes a lot to success. Let’s dive in the life of some of the great personalities and see how they spend their morning time.
Anthony Robbins, chairman of a holding company comprised of 40 privately held businesses with combined sales exceeding $5 billion a year. Moreover, he is one of the best selling authors and motivational speaker too. He calls his morning rituals “Hour Of Power”.
Robbins does “30 Minutes To Thrive” or at least “15 Minutes For Fulfillment”. Robbins claims that a major element of his sustained energy and focus comes from his intense and unusual morning ritual.
Oprah Winfrey, an American media executive, actress, talk show host, television producer and philanthropist. She clears her mind in the morning by doing at least 20 minutes of meditation.
Oprah says that after her morning ritual, “I walked away feeling fuller than when I’d come in. Full of hope, a sense of contentment, and deep joy. Knowing for sure that even in the daily craziness that bombards us from every direction, there is — still — the constancy of stillness. Only from that space can you create your best work and your best life.”
Bill Gates who is a technologist, business leader, philanthropist, and founder of Microsoft, starts off his morning ritual taking care of his body by spending an hour on the treadmill while learning something new by watching courses from the Teaching Company.
If you want to be successful in your life you also have to adopt morning rituals as other successful people do. Below are some morning rituals that you can adopt. Of course, you can not adopt all of them but some of them that fascinate you.
Do the hardest thing first
What is the hardest or biggest activity that you want to do every day but you fail to do because of hustle and bustle of your career or business? Do it in the morning. It can be anything from writing, exercising, to reading etc.
Mark Twain once said, “if the first thing you do each morning is to eat a live frog, you can go through the day with the satisfaction of knowing that that is probably the worst thing that is going to happen to you all day long.”
Your “frog” is your biggest, most important task, the one you are most likely to procrastinate on if you don’t do something about it.
The way you think defines your destiny. When you wake in the morning make some affirmations to yourself because When it comes to behavior change, social psychology rocks. Below are some affirmations that you can make to make your life better.
* I believe in, trust and have confidence in myself.
* I eat well, exercise regularly and get plenty of rest to enjoy good health.
* I learn from my mistakes.
* I know I can accomplish anything I set my mind to.
* I forgive myself for not being perfect because I know I’m human.
* I never give up.
* I accept what I cannot change.
* I make the best of every situation.
* I look for humour and fun in as many situations as possible.
* I enjoy life to the fullest.
* I have control over my thoughts, feelings and choices.
Reading books is one of the most important habits that contribute to success. However, people complain of lack of time for reading. Eventually, they end reading only one or two books in a year. On the other hand, successful people such Billa Gates reads one book a week; Waren Buffett spends 80% of his time reading; Mark Zuckerberg reads one book a month.
If you do not get time to read on your busy day I think early morning is the best for you. Read for at least 30 minutes. Morning is best for reading because your mind is fresh and you are away from distractions by work and surroundings.
Do you want to arrive at your destination while you are bedridden? Of course not. Use your morning time for exercise. It can be anything from walking to jogging or workout in a gym. Indulge in some sort of exercise. Exercise makes your brain and body more active.
According to researches people who do exercise in the morning are more consistent in exercise than those who schedule it for afternoon or evening.
Visualize your goals and success
If you don’t see your success now you will not achieve it afterwards. According to some reports, Muhammad Ali, Jim Carrey, Sarah Blakely, and Tiger Woods all saw their goals achieved years before they arrived.
Scott Adams, the creator of Dilbert, reportedly visualized his dreams and wrote it down 15 times in a row every day. Guess what, within a matter of months, his goals had been reached.
If you want to become the best doctor in your city you have to visualise it every day. If you want to become one of the best selling authors visualise it every day. Go through your goals and visualise it as if you have already achieved it. If you can see it, you can achieve it.
Robin Sharma in his book the ‘Greatness guide’ writes that if you don’t think you can not improve yourself. He once met one of Asia’s top CEOs and asked him the secret of his outrageous success. He smiled and said, “I make time to think.” He further writes, every morning, he spends at least 45 minutes thinking alone.
When you devote a certain time to any task you are away from distractions. Devote a few minutes in the morning for thinking about your professional and personal life. It helps to find out if you are walking on the path of your destination. It also gives some amazing ideas that can help in your business and career.
As Jim Rohn once said, “Either you run the day or the day runs you.” It is up to you. If you want to achieve what you want in your life then make sure you run your day. Because, if days will run you, you will not know where you are going. Eventually, you will arrive nowhere.
Wake up early in the morning, own your day and achieve your success.
